Helmet, the safety gadget that can be your life savior, is generally used to avoid the Police Challan and not to save the life as they seem boring and don't attract much. Apart from true bikers, who adores their bikes a lot and know the importance of proper riding gears, others don't bother to wear a helmet. These passionate bikers can also be seen with eye dazzling helmets, but those are far from lay man's reach as these costs a bomb. However, recently we saw something unique, a helmet, which can be your style statement and yet it is more secure than any other helmet in the range. We are talking about the new ARES range of stylish and professional helmets introduced by the Steelbird in India. Keeping the trend in, one of the model is Denim stitched at the outer side, hence christened as the ARES DENIM. The style is inspired by the Romans and the name ARES is associated with the Greek God of War.
Steelbird is a name that every Indian knows regarding the helmets and many of them also uses one for their safety. But this time you might be thinking that a denim stitched stylish helmet can save your life? Don’t worry, recently we got this helmet for a test review and we are going to tell you the exact engineering of this stylish life saver.
Style:
The new ARES helmets are designed by a professional team in Italy- the country which is known for artistic automotive designs. ARES DENIM is specially styled with a combination of vintage and modern age, which gives it a head turning look. It is an open face type helmet, which has been designed in such a funky manner that suits both boys and girls. As we mentioned above, the outer surface of the helmet has been covered with a Blue Denim fabric with very neat and clean finishing and stitching. Another style element is one pocket on each side of the helmet, like the back side of a jean. Snap buttons are placed on the helmet to complete its denim appeal.
The ARES branding has been done on the rear side using rubber print, however you will not see the name Steelbird anywhere on the helmet. Visor brackets are made of a yellow material, which might look better with a different colour. However, the rainbow coated visor fixed between the yellow brackets provide a cool look to the new ARES DENIM helmet.
Comfort:
A very important feature of a helmet, which doesn't comes in many buyer's minds at the time of purchase is comfort. However, after few days, he realises that he should buy a more comfortable one and refuses to wear his uncomfortable helmet. But I felt that this will not happen with an ARES Denim open face helmet.
The open face helmets are generally more comfortable than other ones. The inner part of the helmet gets EPS shield to damp the shocks and provide a better padding over your head. The fabric materials used inside are mesh and a soft suede like cloth with a soft touch. The mesh fabric allows the air to pass to your head and the soft cloth keeps you sweat free. The lock strap gets an adjustable denim padding, so the strap doesn't feels uncomfortable.
The most important thing that the helmet easily fits in the under-seat storage provided in the automatic scooters. So, you don't have to carry it along.
Safety:
When we are talking about a helmet, safety is the most important feature, for which it is used. The company says that the new ARES helmet has been made using high-end materials and advanced technologies, which are used by NASA for astronauts. The helmet shell has been produced by a blend of Polycarbonate (PC) and Acrylnitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS).
Polycarbonate is the material used for professional helmets and offers a high impact strength with thermal, dimensional and UV stability in a wide temperature range. Acrylnitrile-Butadiene-Styrene is another material used for the helmet production and has medium values of these properties apart from offering high chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
The outer shell of the ARES Helmet rests on a high density EPS shield inside, which is used to absorb the impact energy and provide a clearance between the tuff shell and the soft fabric, touching your head. It gets an unbreakable visor at the front, with UV protection, so your face and eyes both are secured behind it. The lock strap has been made of polyester, which can bear more than 1.4 ton of load. The lock buckle is made of stainless steel, matching the European standards ensures the safety of the rider.
Verdict:
Our overall experience with the scooter was impressive as the trendy helmet was very comfortable. Available at Rs. 3,999, the price does sound a bit expensive, but it is lighter, safer and has better appeal than the rest of the lot.
