100-125cc Commuters Launched in India During 2014

India is the world largest two wheeler market and the commuter segment is the most crucial one as it contributes the mammoth share of 70 percent. The segment is further segregated in sub segments, however 100-125cc motorcycles drive the major sales. The importance of the segment is evident by the fact that manufacturers have multiple products in the segment and keep launching new product while improving the existing ones. That results in new bikes almost every month and 2014 also witnessed quite a few.
Hero MotoCorp Splendor iSmart:
The world's largest two wheeler manufacturer- Hero MotoCorp unveiled a fleet of new and updated products in October 2013 including the Splendor iSmart and HF-Deluxe ECO, which are launched in March 2014. Based on the existing Hero Splendor NXG, the Splendor iSmart got some very interesting cosmetic and technical upgrades including the first-in-class switchable i3S (idle start stop system) to reduce the fuel consumption during urban rides. At the heart, it retains the 97.2cc APDV engine delivering 7.7bhp of maximum power. The new features added to the Splendor iSmart are new paint scheme with techno graphics, split style grab rail, sportier visor and handlebar weights.

Hero MotoCorp HF-deluxe ECO:
Hero MotoCorp introduced the HF-Deluxe ECO as an upgraded variant of the HF-Deluxe, having some aerodynamic updates along with all the features of the top variant of the HF-Deluxe. The new features of the bike are Aero mirrors, airfoils on leg-guards and low rolling friction tyres, which costs Rs. 1,000 extra. Reason for adding these features is to improve the fuel economy of the bike, which has been made available in single Green paint scheme, providing an Eco friendly look to it.

Hero MotoCorp Splendor Pro Classic:
One of the most unique commuters ever launched- Hero Splendor Pro Classic unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in an exciting cafe racer avatar, but the bike was launched in the month of October. Mechanically it is the same Splendor Pro with lots of new cosmetic features including classic round headlight and speedometer, single seat with cafe racer style cowl, sporty handlebar, vintage style paint and graphics, round tail lamp and turn indicators, steel mudguards and shiny spoke wheels to complete its cafe racer look. The bike uses the same 97.2cc APDV engine, powering the entire Hero MotoCorp 100cc commuter range. However, the mill has been re-tuned to deliver increased 8.25bhp of maximum power.

Hero MotoCorp Passion Pro TR:
Unveiled and launched with the Splendor Pro Classic, the Hero Passion Pro TR introduced as an on/off road version of the stylish commuter series- Passion. The bike got lots of new features including sturdier handlebars with cross brace, high front fender with hugger, knee pad for better grip, headlight grill, hand guards for added protection, MRF Moto-D tyres for better road grip, bash plate to shield engine, designer knuckle guard and fuel tank pads. All these features are added to make it compatible for dual purpose riding. Mechanically it remains the same Passion Pro with the re-tuned engine like the Splendor Pro Classic.

Honda CD 110 Dream:
Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI) launched its most affordable bike- CD 110 Dream in July, which is based on the platform also shared by the other two machines of the Dream family- Yuga and Neo. It is a cosmetically stripped down model of the series, however, all the engineering remains unchanged. Powering the bike is also the same reliable 110cc motor, making 8.2bhp and 8.6Nm of the maximum power and torque respectively. The most alluring features of the bike are its claimed efficiency of 74kmpl and a very affordable price tag.
Price: Rs. 41,100 (ex-showroom Delhi).
TVS Star City Plus:
TVS come up with the all new Star City Plus at the Auto Expo 2014, which is launched in May with a very affordable price tag. The bike looks far better than its previous version as well as many other bikes in its competitive price range. Its fresh, practical and sporty styling includes multi-functional analog-digital console with service reminder, a stainless steel muffler guard, chrome finished handlebars, coloured shock absorbers, Econometer and a dual tone seat. Propelling the bike is a new 110cc Ecothrust engine, engineered for better fuel economy and power on demand.
Price: Rs. 41,500 for Kick Start Mag variant and 44,000 for Self Start Mag variant (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Mahindra Centuro N1 and Rockstar:
After the grand success of its Centuro O1 in the market, Mahindra launched two new variants of the bike- N1 and Rockstar in January and August 2014 respectively. The Centuro N1 and Centuro Rockstar are stripped down models of the O1 variant, priced Rs. 2,800 and 5,500 lesser than the 01 respectively. Both the bikes share the same engineering along with the 110cc MCi-5 engine, delivering 8.5bhp. However, the N1 version gets and analog instrumentation instead of the digital type, while the Rockstar variant also looses the remote key fob and the anti-theft alarm system.
Price: Rs. 46,450 for the Centuro N1 and Rs. 43,680 for the Centuro Rockstar (ex-showroom,Delhi).
Discover 125 M:
Bajaj launched a new version of the Discover 125- M in April, which is based on the third gen platform of the Discover series. There are two main features of the bike- pricing comparable to the 100-110cc bikes and its claimed mileage of 76kmpl. The bike houses the same 124.6cc, 4-valve, DTS-i engine, which powers the 125 ST and 125 T, but tuned for better efficiency. The sporty styling of the bike helped it to gain popularity faster and its power delivery of 11.3bhp is also better than many other bikes of the respective segment.
Price: Rs. 48,000 for the standard variant and Rs. 50,000 for the front disc variant (ex-showroom,Delhi).
