The 2017 Street Rod gets new chassis geometry, three paint options and new high power output engine

The Street Rod is the first motorcycle launched by Harley-Davidson in India in 2017. The motorcycle is targeted towards street-oriented usage. It gets a new 750cc liquid-cooled single OHC 8V 60 degree V-Twin High Output Revolution X engine which produces 11 percent more horsepower and 5 percent more torque than the Street 750. The maximum power is developed at 8,250 rpm and peak torque at 4,000 rpm. To increase airflow and efficiency, the bike gets larger volume air box and new dual 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder heads and high-lift camshafts along with a higher volume exhaust muffler. Compression ratio has gone up from 11.0:1 to 12.0:1 and the engine now revs up to 9,000 rpm, compared to the previous 8,000 rpm.

The Street Rod gets new chassis geometry with 43mm inverted forks and the fork angle is repositioned from 32 degrees to 27 degrees for crisper and quicker handling inputs. The new shock absorbers get an external oil reservoir to increase fluid capacity and the travel is raised by 31 percent to 117mm. The lean angle has increased from 28.5 degree left and right to 37.3 degrees right and 40.2 degrees left for more cornering access. The motorcycle gets 17-inch Open Spoke Black Cast aluminium wheels both at the front and the rear shod with MRF tyres, 120/70 R17 and 160/60 R17 at the front and rear respectively. It gets dual 300mm front discs with ABS as standard and a raised saddle height and ground clearance to 765mm and 205mm respectively.

Pallavi Singh, Director Marketing, Harley-Davidson India, said, “We are thrilled to launch Harley-Davidson Street Rod in India which has a growing population of young adults. The model is built to appeal a specific demographic in this space. As a customer-led organization, a key part of our strategy is to attract and retain new riders in India.”

Chetan Shedjale, Senior Motorcycle Designer, Harley-Davidson added, “American racing is something very inspirational to the world, it was a key factor in styling inspiration and resulted in substantial changes to the look of the all-new Harley-Davidson Street Rod. Everything was looked at to be performance oriented, street-fighter inspired but with a Harley image and Americana. It is designed to deliver the style and agility demanded in an urban environment where our riders will experience this motorcycle in.”

Bookings open today, March 15, 2017, and the motorcycle is available for test rides from April 21, 2017, across all the Harley-Davidson dealerships in India.
