Harley-Davidson India is all set to launch two new bikes tomorrow - the Forty-Eight Special and Street Glide Special. The former is Harley’s sportster with fat wheels, a peanut tank and a massive 1200cc engine while the latter is a laidback tourer with saddlebags and a front fairing. The Forty-Eight Special will be an added variant while the Street Glide Special will replace the current-gen Street Glide in India.

For 2019, the Forty-Eight Special features “tallboy” handlebars and new graphics on its peanut-shaped tank. Additionally, it gets keyless ignition as an optional extra. The rest of the bodywork and underpinnings remain unchanged. It continues to be powered by a 1,202cc V-twin, air-cooled engine that belts out 97Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The Forty-Eight Special is expected to get a starting price of around Rs 11 lakh compared to the current price of Rs 10.58 lakh on the standard model.

On the other hand, the Street Glide Special gets a set of new Talon alloys wheels, blacked-out components and a new Boom Box GTS touchscreen infotainment system. The biggest update on the Street Glide Special is the use of a new Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine. The new 1,868cc, V-twin motor makes a whopping 163Nm of torque (up by 13Nm) lower down the rev range at 3,000rpm. Expect the Street Glide Special to be priced around Rs 32 lakh (ex-showroom), a premium of around 2 lakh over the outgoing model.

In terms of competition, the Harley Davidson Forty-Eight Special competes against the Indian Scout Bobber while the Street Glide Special goes up against the Indian Chieftain.
