2019 Yamaha YZF-R3 India Launch In December?

The Japanese manufacturer has sent out an invite for a launch event on December 19
- In India, the last update the R3 received was at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Earlier this week, we told you that Yamaha could launch BS6-compliant versions of the Fascino scooter and other popular models based on an invite the company had sent out for a press conference in Chennai on December 19. Now, however, our sources suggest that the Japanese manufacturer could launch the 2019 YZF-R3 facelift instead.
The YZF R3 has remained unchanged since its last update in 2018 where it received dual-channel ABS and Metzeler Sportec M5 radial tyres. However, the international-spec bike received a new design language, a digital instrument cluster, revised ergonomics and an inverted fork at the 2018 EICMA motor show in November last year. We hope Yamaha offers the inverted fork in the India-spec bike this time around.
Interestingly, the bike sold abroad is yet to be updated for Euro 5 emission norms, which is equivalent to BS6 standard. But now that it has been a year since the facelifted model came out, we believe Yamaha could have used this time to update the bike to meet the new norms. In that case, it could become the company’s first BS6-compliant two-wheeler to go on sale in India. That said, it remains to be seen whether the updates will affect the engine’s performance. For reference, the R3 sold in India and the facelifted model sold abroad make 42PS of power and 29.6Nm of peak torque from a 321cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine.
The current-gen R3 is priced at Rs 3.51 lakh. Considering the fact that most of the updates in the new-gen R3 is cosmetic barring the cleaner engine and inverted forks, expect this bike to cost somewhere around Rs 3.7 lakh to Rs 3.9 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will continue to rival the Benelli 302R (Rs 3.10 lakh), Kawasaki Ninja 300 (Rs 2.98 lakh) and KTM RC 390 (Rs 2.44 lakh). All prices, ex-showroom Delhi.
