The new scooters get a new design and improved tech
Yamaha has launched the 2022 TMax 560 in Europe, its flagship maxi-scooter that has been overhauled, making it lighter, quicker, and packed with more features than ever. For context, the only maxi-scooter from Yamaha in India is the Aerox 155.
The highlight of the 2022 TMax 560 is its sportier design. Up front, you have the new sleeker LED headlight flanked by two air intakes. On the side, the panels have been redesigned, including the spine, which is now slimmer, offering more legroom. It even flaunts a new windscreen and redesigned pillion grab rails.

Yamaha has also altered the ergonomics to go with the sporty styling. So, the new aluminum handlebars have been positioned in a way to give it a slightly forward-set and commanding riding position. The seat is now longer, moving the backrest forward by 30mm.
The 2022 TMax 560 features a 7-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Once connected with the Yamaha Y-Connect app, you can control music, see call and message alerts, and get weather alerts too. However, full-screen navigation requires a subscription from Garmin.
Underneath the new, fancy bodywork sits the same 562cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin mill, putting out 47PS at 7500rpm and 55.7Nm at 5250rpm. That’s 13PS and 20Nm more than the BMW C 400 GT.
Even the suspension setup -- consisting of USD fork and a link-type monoshock -- and braking hardware have been carried forward from the previous-gen scooter. However, the alloy wheels are new, claimed to be lighter than before.
That said, at 218kg, it remains a hefty maxi-scooter.
If the 2022 Yamaha TMax 560 doesn’t cut it for you, there’s the Tech Max, which, as the name suggests, is packed with tech. So, heated seat and grips, electronically adjustable windscreen, cruise control, backlit handlebar controls, and adjustable rear suspension all come as standard. On the mechanicals front, the Tech Max is the same as the standard model.
The 2022 Yamaha TMax 560 and TMax 560 Tech Max will hit Europe’s streets in February 2022. It is highly unlikely that these maxi-scooters will ever grace India. But if expensive, powerful scooters are your thing, the BMW C 400 GT should be right up your alley.
