Here’s what we think about the new Jupiter 110’s real world performance
Getting a scooter for the family is not an easy task, and now with the many choices in the market, it has become even harder. An easy going, reliable and feature packed scooter is what everyone needs. TVS with their 2024 Jupiter 110, has attempted to create something that can bring together all 3 qualities. But the question is, how well has the scooter managed to achieve this goal?
Design
When it comes to looks, family oriented scooters are not often known for being the most eye-catching ones out there. But TVS, with the 2024 Jupiter 110, decided this doesn’t have to be the case. Compared to the previous generation Jupiter 110, the new one looks absolutely stunning.
The scooter features a sharp styling overall, while maintaining that boxy silhouette which we have come to associate with family-oriented scooters. Compared to the previous generation Jupiter 110, the 2024 model looks and feels like a premium offering thanks to some details like the matte finish, apron mounted LED DRL and the usage of metallic badging on the apron and body panels.
Overall, the design has been very well executed and the 2024 TVS Jupiter really feels like a massive upgrade over the previous generation.
Engine, Mileage And Performance
The 2024 TVS Jupiter 110 comes with an updated engine, the new one is a 113.3cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 8.02PS and 9.2Nm. TVS has also added in a mild-hybrid powertrain to the scooter called iGo, which gives a toque boost of 0.6Nm.
The iGo Assist system is quite simple, it uses the starter motor generator to give you a small torque boost when riding. When the scooter's battery has enough charge, the system lets you know it is ready via a message on the console, after which you can disengage the throttle and reengage it for the boost.
Now, the technicalities aside, coming to the real world performance, the new engine feels really refined with little to no vibrations being present. It offers peppy acceleration and feels quite energetic. This is true when riding in the city and on the highways. During my time riding in the city, I was able to execute overtakes quite easily and without having to worry about planning them too much in advance.
When looking at the numbers, it might feel like the iGo boost system is just a gimmick given the tiny 0.6Nm torque boost, but in the real world the system does make a difference. Where it truly shines is on the highways, where you will be riding at speeds of 70-80kmph. At these speeds the engine’s performance does start to taper off, but with the iGo system and the torque boost it provides, overtaking at these speeds becomes much easier.
Another interesting feature TVS has added in is an idle start stop system, which helps in improving fuel efficiency. It works like this: when idling in traffic the system turns off the engine and you will have to engage the brake and the throttle to turn the scooter back on. This system takes a bit of time getting used to and is not as simple as similar idle start stop systems that we have seen on other two-wheelers.
For example, the Hero Splendor Plus has a similar system in place, but using it is as simple as pulling in the clutch leaver. On the Jupiter, the addition of the throttle twist to engage it back feels counterintuitive and there have been embarrassing instances where I held back traffic because I wasn’t able to restart the scooter quickly enough. So I just keep it off most of the time now.
Overall, performance wise the Jupiter 110 has managed to thoroughly impress and the mild-hybrid powertrain really makes a difference.
Handling And Ride Quality
The new TVS Jupiter 110 is a really good scooter when it comes to handling characteristics. It feels really light, making it easy to move around the parking lot. It is also quite agile and flickable, and can cut through traffic with ease, making it a really good scooter for riding in the city. On the highway, the Jupiter 110 feels very stable thanks to the stiffer suspension. It can easily cruise at highway speeds of 80kmph, without feeling unstable.
Although the suspension setup manages to keep the scooter stable at higher speeds, it feels a bit stiff to ride on bad roads filled with undulations and potholes. But with a pillion on board, the suspension becomes a lot more balanced and offers better ride quality.
In terms of braking performance, the front 220mm disc brake feels quite responsive and slows down the scooter quickly. But the rear brake, which is a 130mm drum unit, feels a bit lacking both in terms of responsiveness and stopping power.
During my rides, I have noticed the need to squeeze the brake lever hard to slow down the scooter. This makes it necessary to use both brakes when you want to bring a scooter to a halt or during emergency braking situations. But otherwise, the braking performance is decent and gets the job done.
Comfort
One of the most important things that a family scooter has to get right is comfort, and in the Jupiter 110’s case, TVS has managed to nail it. The scooter offers a relaxed and upright riding posture, which won’t make you feel tired or uncomfortable during commutes.
Add in the well cushioned seat which offers enough foam thickness and support, you won’t be feeling your butt sinking into the seat during longer rides, and causing discomfort. The seat is also quite large and spacious, giving enough room for both the rider and the pillion to move around a bit. Overall, the Jupiter is able to offer a comfortable riding experience both during solo rides and also with a pillion.
Features
The TVS Jupiter SmartXonnect Disc variant is equipped with a colour LCD console. The console features turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts among other similar bits that TVS has included with its SmartXonnect package. It also offers readouts like average mileage and a distance-to-empty (DTE), which is a nice addition.
But the layout is a bit confusing at times, with multiple readouts being crammed into the same space. When riding the console cycles between average mileage and iGo Assist ready alerts, which is a bit annoying. But overall, the large font used to display the essential readouts like speed and fuel level makes the console functional and readable on the go.
Now, coming to the storage. The 2024 Jupiter 110 now offers a 33-litre bootspace, which is a substantial upgrade from the previous generation Jupiter 110’s 21-litres of storage. TVS has managed to pull this off by moving the fuel tank to the floorboard, similar to what they have done with the TVS Jupiter 125.
The storage space is quite good and it has enough space to accommodate everything from your bags to groceries. I really appreciate this higher storage capacity as it allows me to store my laptop bag inside without any trouble. This will come in handy during the monsoons when you really need to keep your bag and electronics safe from the rains.
With the floorboard mounted fuel tank, the Jupiter 110 now gets an apron mounted fuel filler cap. This is similar to the one used on the Jupiter 125 and is really convenient. TVS has also added in a USB charging port and a small storage space underneath, so you can easily keep your phone inside while charging.
Overall, features and storage wise the new Jupiter does not disappoint and feels like a massive upgrade over the previous generation Jupiter.
Should You Buy The 2024 TVS Jupiter 110?
The 2024 TVS Jupiter 110 is a rare case where I can easily say, without any caveats, that you should buy it. The scooter thoroughly impresses with its amazing looks, exciting performance, good handling and the extensive list of features on offer.
If you are someone who is looking for a family oriented scooter or a working professional just looking for a commuter, I would say the Juptier will be able to meet all your needs. For the family man, the Juptier will be a comfortable scooter with enough storage to meet household needs. For the younger riders out there, the scooter offers sufficiently exciting performance and an extensive list of features. You won’t get bored with it easily.
Coming to the prices, the TVS Jupiter is offered in 4 variants with the following prices:
Variant |
Price (ex-showroom, Delhi) |
Drum |
Rs 73,700 |
Drum Alloy |
Rs 79,200 |
Drum SmartXonnect |
Rs 83,250 |
Disc SmartXonnect |
Rs 87,250 |
We wished TVS had offered a disc variant without SmartXonnect and the related features. There are many riders, myself included, who would prefer to get the better braking performance of a disc brake but without having to pay extra for Smartphone connectivity.
When compared to its rivals in the segment, like the Honda Activa 6G which starts at a price of Rs 76,684 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the base variant of the Jupiter is Rs 2,984 cheaper. So overall, from a value for money point of view getting the Jupiter 110 makes more sense.
But if you want a scooter that can offer unmatched reliability and Japanese levels of refinement, then going for the Honda Activa 6G will be the right choice. We will be doing a detailed comparison review between both scooters soon to give you a definitive answer as to which one you should get, so stay tuned to BikeDekho!
