Ola S1’s broken front fork throws rider off, resulting in major injuries
UPDATE: We reached out to Ola Electric and here's their official statement: “Our preliminary investigation into the recent incident and our analysis has revealed that this was a case of a very high impact road accident. We are in touch with the customer and have extended all necessary support to the family. We are happy to share that the rider is safe and recovering"
Just when we thought Ola had started addressing its build quality issues, yet another case of the S1’s suspension breaking down has surfaced online. And this time too, it looks like a rather serious one.
Samkit Parmar took to twitter, claiming that his wife was thrown off her S1 because the electric scooter’s ‘fancy’ single fork suddenly gave way. She sustained major injuries and ended up in the ICU. While she’s stable now, this is an extremely scary incident. Making things worse for the Bengaluru-based brand was the slew of complaints under that tweet. The large number of people that claim to have faced the exact same issue is honestly concerning for a company that’s claimed to be at the forefront of the electric revolution in India.

This incident also reiterates the importance of riding gear. This is exactly why a full-face helmet, proper riding jacket, gloves and boots are a must when going out on our unpredictable roads. Ola has offered to check the vehicles of customers who are concerned about any suspension-related issues. And that's a good step. We sincerely hope this is the last we hear of Ola's suspension-related issues.
Interestingly, the more affordable Ola S1 Air comes with a conventional telescopic fork, and is different from the S1 Pro in several other aspects too. You can read more about them here. In a related development, we got to test the MoveOS 3 update in the Ola S1 Pro, and here's what we think about it.
