Quick News Highlights:

  • Honda is planning to launch a new neo-retro roadster in India
  • It is likely to be based on the platform as the Honda Hornet 2.0
  • Expected to rival the likes of TVS Ronin and Royal Enfield Hunter 350 in terms of price

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India have filed a new design patent for its upcoming neo-retro roadster. The bike has a neo-retro design, similar to the Honda CB300R, and is expected to be based on the same platform as the Honda Hornet 2.0.

Here’s what it gets

In terms of design, the bike gets a round headlight, single-piece handlebar and a muscular fuel tank similar to the Honda CB300R. It has a single-piece seat and a sleek tail-section along with a short and stubby exhaust. The exhaust also looks similar to the Honda Hornet 2.0, but has a different heatshield.

Based on the same platform as the Honda Hornet 2.0, it is likely to be powered by the same 184.4cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 17.26Nm and 15.9Nm, paired with a 5-speed transmission. However, the engine could be tuned differently as per the characteristics of the roadster.

The upcoming Honda neo-roadster’s patent images suggest that it gets a new instrument cluster, likely to be a part analogue and part digital unit, that includes a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, trip meter, clock and other basic telltale lights. It may also get smartphone connectivity and navigation as optional features.

Underpinnings on the bike include an inverted fork and a monoshock. For brakes, it uses a front and rear petal disc, likely to be the same (276mm front and 220mm rear) setup as the Hornet 2.0. The bike is fitted with 17-inch wheels on both ends and the tyres look similar to the Hornet 2.0, which has 110-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres.

Expected Price and Launch Date

The Honda Hornet is priced at Rs 1,43,451 (ex-showroom) and the upcoming Honda roadster is expected to be priced similarly at around Rs 1.4 lakh to Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom mark). It may take a while to be launched in the Indian market.

In the same price range, it will compete against the other neo-retro bikes in the market, including the TVS Ronin and Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
