Hero MotoCorp has launched the new Splendor Plus Xtec disc brake variant in India. At Rs 83,461, it costs just Rs 3,550 more than the drum brake variant which costs Rs 79,911 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec Disc variant is equipped with a 240mm front disc brake and 130mm drum brake at the rear, with CBS (combined braking system) as standard. Having a disc brake at the front is always a nice addition and it has definitely added to the Splendor’s value-for-money quotient. We would’ve loved it if Hero had thrown in single-channel ABS too, something that even the Bajaj Platina 110 at Rs 80,774 (ex-showroom Delhi) has.
The Splendor Plus Xtec Disc variant is only available in three colours: Black Sparking Blue, Black Tornado Grey and Red black. Whereas the drum variant gets an additional Pearl Fadeless white colour.
The Splendor Plus Xtec Disc variant has a kerb weight of 113.6kg, which is 1.6kg more than the drum brake variant which weighs in at 112kg. Moreover, the drum variant continues to get 130mm drum brakes at both front and rear, with CBS as standard.
The rest of the features, underpinnings and mechanicals remain the same as before. The Splendor Xtec is powered by a 97.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum output of 8.02PS at 8000rpm and 8.05Nm at 6000rpm. It is paired with a 4-speed transmission.
The Hero Splendor Xtec comes with a full LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth for call and SMS alerts. It also displays a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and real-time mileage too.
The bike has a halogen headlight with an LED DRL (daytime running light) above it. The tail light and indicators are bulb-type. Other features on the bike include an electric starter, a side-stand engine cut-off and an Idle Stop-Start System (i3S). The i3S helps improve the overall mileage of the bike by automatically switching off the engine when it idles for some time at traffic signals or in traffic jams. And when you want to go again, then the engine turns back on automatically just by pressing the clutch and a slight input on the accelerator.
The Splendor Plus Xtec comes with a telescopic fork and five-step preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers. The bike is fitted with 18-inch wheels at both ends, wrapped with 80-section tubeless tyres. The bike has a 165mm ground clearance and has a 9.8-litre fuel tank.
It goes up against the other 100-110cc commuter bikes including the TVS Radeon, Bajaj CT110X, and Honda Shine 100.
