Hero MotoCorp has launched the much-awaited Xoom 160 maxi-scooter in India. Prices for the scooter start from Rs 1,48,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 160cc Hero scooter is available in four colours: Canyon Red, Matte Rain Forest Green, Summit White and Matte Volcanic Grey.

Design

The Hero Xoom 160 gets a similar design language which Hero first showcased on the concept model over two years back. The Xoom 160 comes with a proper maxi-scooter design which consists of a large raised front-end, dual-LED headlights, a large flyscreen, an ADV-styled front beak, and beefy side panels which makes the scooter stand out. The side profile gets a centre tunnel on the floorboard which houses the fuel tank and a long single-piece which looks comfortable enough for two well-sized adults. The rear section comprises a slim LED tail light and a raised tail section. The overall look is enhanced by the block pattern tyres and the large alloy.

Engine and Underpinnings

The Hero Xoom 160 is powered by a brand-new 156cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which makes 14PS and 13.7Nm, and is paired with a CVT. The suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and dual-shock absorbers. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends and the scooter rides on 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped around with block-pattern tyres. The scooter has a ground clearance of 155mm which is good enough for our roads and an accessible seat height of 787mm.

Features

In terms of features, the Xoom 160 comes with dual-pod LED headlights up front, though the indicators are bulb-type. It gets a digital instrument cluster and is the same unit as the Hero Xoom 110 Combat Edition. Other features include keyless ignition and idle stop-start to increase the overall mileage of the scooter.

Rivals

The Hero Xoom 160 goes against the likes of Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160 in India.
