Deliveries of the e-scooters to start immediately and it is more expensive than before
After a wait of two very long years, Bengaluru-based EV startup Simple Energy has finally launched the much-awaited One electric scooter. With a price tag of Rs 1.45 lakh for the standard colour variants and Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including revised FAME 2 subsidy) for the special X colour variants, the Simple One has witnessed a significant price hike from its initial asking price of Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including latest FAME 2 subsidies).
If you are wondering about the design, then worry not, it is as stunning as before with its aggressive and edgy styling. The sportiness is consistent from front to back with sharp panels and complimentary styling, including the LED lights and sporty grab rails.
Powering the Simple One is an 8.5kW peak output motor churning out 72Nm – truly a torque monster. It can do the 0-40kmph sprint in merely 2.77 seconds (same as before), making it the quickest electric scooter (on paper) to FINALLY be on sale in India. The top speed is a claimed 105kmph, more than enough for a sporty scooter.
Even the range from its 5kWh (0.2KWh more than before) battery pack (features both removable and fixed units) is pretty impressive, claiming a 225km Indian Driving Conditions (IDC) figure. The removable battery capacity stands at 1.5kWh and the fixed battery is a 3.5kWh unit. As per the claims by Simple, the battery will charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 5 hour 54 minutes (with the home charger).
It also features fast charging, with a one-minute charge offering a claimed 1.5km, which is slated to begin in August 2023.
The Simple One runs a telescopic fork and monoshock, with discs at both ends. It now weighs 134kg (kerb) which is 19kg heavier than before.
Simple has equipped the One with all-LED lighting, a massive 30-litre underseat storage, a smaller secondary removable battery, a combined braking system and fast charging. It also features a 7-inch TFT instrument console with OTA updates, geo fencing, a tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle tracking, ride statistics and documents storage.
It is available in single and dual tone colour options – Brazen Black, Namma Red, Azzure Blue, Grace White, Brazen X and Light X.
Verdict
Simple One, from its initial unveils, has maintained its extremely attractive personality by being not only the quickest e-scooter, but also the one offering the highest range in the segment. Sure, it has witnessed a price hike from what was asked initially. But even at this price and considering what’s on offer, it still is a great value for money product.
The Simple One goes up against other premium electric offerings in the market, like the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X and the TVS iQube Electric ST. The first phase of the deliveries of the e-scooter will begin from June 6 in Bengaluru. The company plans to establish as many as 150 dealerships across the country in the next 10 months.
