Can the new commercial electric scooter be as capable as the trusty TVS XL100?
The TVS XL100 has been the most sought-after utilitarian moped in the country, topping the sales charts consistently. Despite its puny proportions, it can do quite a lot of heavy lifting. But the rising fuel prices and the government pushing for electric mobility has given rise to a new breed of e-scooters that intend to take some of the burden off the XL100’s shoulders, and one such is the Detel Easy Plus. But is it really a match for the TVS XL100? Let’s find that out:
Slender build, skinny tyres and a small footboard--the Detel Easy Plus and the TVS XL are quite close in terms of styling. Both focus on function rather than form, but of the two, the Detel certainly has a lot more pep than the TVS (pun intended). At 170kg, the Detel even comes with 40kg more payload than the TVS.
While the XL 100 relies on the old-school halogen headlight, the Detel Easy Plus comes with a modern LED unit.
The Detel comes with a 250watt hub motor which can propel the e-scooter to 25kmph while the TVS XL100 gets a 99.7cc engine that produces 4.5PS and 6.5Nm. While the TVS can definitely go beyond 25kmph, the puny engine of the Easy Plus means that it doesn’t require registration or a driving licence to ride.
The Easy Plus’ 48V 20Ah battery has a claimed range of 50km while the TVS XL100 is likely to give four times the range from its 4-litre tank. That said, the Detel EasyPlus gets pedals, in case of emergency.
Both the products come with a basic setup, consisting of drum brakes at both ends. Even the telescopic fork is common among the two; however, while the Detel e-scooter comes with a single rear shock absorber, the TVS XL100 is equipped with dual shock absorbers at the rear.
