In the first look, we thought that it is Triumph Street Triple R, but when we compared the bike with 675cc Street Triple, we found the bike in images doesn’t feature the 675cc inline triple engine, which powers the Street Triple R. It is looking like a small single cylinder engine of around 250-300cc displacement. The single exhaust pipe coming from the cylinder head also confirms that it is single cylinder engine.
Most of the features in the bike are looking similar to the 2013 Street Triple R including the frame, shape of body panels and dual eye headlamps. While there are some prominent changes as well including the new exhaust tail pipe, rear mudguard, foot pegs and foot peg holders, single front disk brakes, tyres and wheels. The bike in the picture also misses the 41mm fully adjustable up-side down telescopic forks in the front and a single front disk brake has been used instead of dual disks. Like all the entry level performance bikes, it will come with rear grab rails and dual side box section swing arm, which were not used in the 675cc Street Triple R.
The new sub-300cc triumph bike will compete against the likes of Honda CBR250R, Suzuki Inzuma 250, Kawasaki Ninja 300R, Hyosung GT250R and entry level KTM Dukes. Apart from these, the upcoming baby Triumph will also have to face some upcoming rivals like quarter liter BMW and Yamaha.
Triumph India is also in the last stage of preparations to launch Triumph bikes in India. The British manufacturer is already assembling some of its bikes in the company's Chennai plant, so there are bright chances that we soon get this baby Triumph on our roads.
Stay tuned for more updates.
