EXCLUSIVE: Aprilia SXR 125 India Launch Delayed

It will arrive three months after its elder sibling, the SXR 160

• The SXR 160 is expected in October this year followed by the SXR 125 in Jan 2021.
• Expect more generous underseat storage than the SR models.
• Prices could be around Rs 1.20 lakh and Rs 1.05 lakh respectively.

A few months ago, we brought you news about the Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter being accompanied by a smaller SXR 125 cousin as well. Now, we bring you the bad news about the latter’s launch being slightly delayed. Unfortunately, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works and the SXR 125’s launch has been delayed by about three months.

If things go to plan, the SXR 160 will first be launched in late-September or early-October, followed by the SXR 125 in January 2021. Now that the bad news has been dealt with, let's give you some good news too. The SXR series uses smaller 12-inch wheels compared to the SR series’ 14-inchers. What this means is that the SXR scooters will feature more generous underseat storage than their sportier SR counterparts.

Though built on the same platform as the SR scooters with similar underpinnings, the SXR series will spawn maxi-scooters which will be more comfortable and more practical, hopefully without sacrificing too much performance. These are premium looking scooters and they’re likely to be quite feature rich as well, coming with a fully-digital display and Bluetooth connectivity. Expect the SXR 125 to cost around Rs 1.05 lakh and the SXR 160 at Rs 1.20 lakh once launched.
