Benelli was planning to launch the BS6-compliant Imperiale 400 in April but it had to be postponed due to the ongoing lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our sources indicate that the updated motorcycle will be launched soon at around Rs 2.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), that’s a hike of Rs 30,000 over the top-spec BS4 Imperiale 400. According to our sources, the substantial price hike is due to the BS6 transition and the revised USD currency exchange rate. The new motorcycles are expected to reach dealerships within a month after the lockdown ends.
The updated Imperiale 400 BS6 is expected to carry the same design and features as before. It may get new colour options though. The updated BS6-compliant 374cc air-cooled and fuel-injected motor is expected to deliver around the same 21PS and 29Nm as before and use the same 5-speed gearbox. Underpinnings too are expected to remain unchanged. The Imperial 400 gets telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers. It gets 19-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels. Braking is via a 300mm front disc and 240mm rear disc brake with dual-channel ABS.

The Benelli Imperiale 400 was launched in October last year at an introductory price of Rs 1.69 lakh which was revised in February to Rs 1,79,500 for the silver colour variant and Rs 1,89 499 for the black and red variants. While the Benelli Imperiale 400 was immensely popular during launch and managed to rake in close to 4,000 bookings, it remains to be seen how the price hike affects the retro motorcycle’s popularity. The Benelli Imperiale 400 BS6 will compete with the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 and Jawa BS6.
