Homegrown e-bicycle maker unveils plans for its first performance-oriented e-motorcycle called CSR 762

Gujarat-based e-cycle maker Svitch is looking to enter the rapidly mushrooming two-wheeled electric mobility arena with a new performance-oriented electric motorcycle. Switch is calling it the CSR 762, and the EV, which currently is in its certification phase, is slated for launch sometime between July and August this year. In recent years, we have seen an influx of e-scooters. Electric bikes however have not arrived thick and fast. The Svitch CSR 762 certainly looks interesting with its brawny avatar, and, on paper, packs a fairly decent list of features. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect from this EV.

Svitch says the design inspiration for the CSR comes from Gujarat’s Asiatic Lions. The boxy yet futuristic design does offer a slight resemblance to the mane of the big cat but as a motorcycle, it’s closer to the Ultraviolette F77 in terms of looks, than say a Tork Kratos. The design render reveals a rectangular LED headlight and a single-pod digital instrument cluster. The 762 badging on the tank also reminds one of Husqvarna’s Svartpilen 250. The CSR will also feature a low seat height (at 780mm), making the EV accessible to even average heighted riders.

The CSR will house a 3kW motor with a peak output of 10kW. The EV will be powered by a 3.7kWh NMC battery pack, the same as the Ola S1 Pro. We recently had the opportunity to visit Ola’s FutureFactory and see how the battery packs are made for the S1 Pro

With a claimed top speed of 110kmph and range of 120km to the charge, Svitch is leaning more towards performance and fun. If parallels were to be drawn, the Revolt RV400 gets a 5kW motor that’s paired to swappable 3.24kWh batteries and gets an ARAI-certified range of 156km.

Despite claiming a long wheelbase of 1430mm, the CSR, its maker says, will get a sharp rake of 24 degrees, which should theoretically offer an engaging front end. However, we reckon the 155kg kerb weight will have some bearing on the overall performance. The e-bike will feature
six riding modes -  three basic riding modes, one parking assist mode, a reverse and a sports mode for flat out fun.

Svitch intends on pricing the CSR 762 around Rs 1.65 lakh and post government subsidies, the expected retail tag will be around Rs 1.25 lakh. It is even hoping to establish a network of battery-swapping stations in tandem with the government's recent policy on the subject in the latest budget. Svitch did have a soft launch for the CSR 762 back in November 2021, but the e-bike never really hit the roads. We hope Svitch launches and delivers the electric bike as per schedule this time. The company is currently working on establishing a wide network of dealers and other ancillary support arms for the final launch in the second half of 2022.
