Called the Gaokin GK1000, this v-twin-powered cruiser makes 89PS from its 997cc engine
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer and engine supplier Gaokin Motor has unveiled its GK1000 cruiser in its domestic market. This bikemaker has been pivotal in China’s domestic ‘big bike revolution’, so the expectations from this v-twin cruiser are already high.
One look at the Gaokin GK1000 and you know it is a proper big-bore cruiser. Everything from its raked front and the massive fuel tank, to the scooped seat and the large footboards, gives it a very dominating appearance. However, the styling isn’t American at all, but rather a European take on the genre. So, you get a futuristic LED headlight and a massive digital instrument console.

At the heart of the Gaokin GK1000 is a 997cc liquid-cooled v-twin engine that produces a paltry 89.7PS. While the company hasn’t specified the torque yet, expect it to be around 100Nm given that its 1200cc sibling churns about 108Nm. Yes, these aren’t really segment-leading figures, especially considering that the GK1000 tips the scales at a whopping 269kg.
The Gaokin GK1000 features a beefy USD fork and monoshock setup, while braking duties have been entrusted to dual discs up front and a single disc at the rear. Gaokin has used a Bosch-sourced dual-channel ABS for this model. Interestingly, this cruiser runs 18-inch wheels on both ends with a wide 130-section unit up front and a 240-section unit at the rear.
Gaokin hasn’t revealed much about the electronics but expect this bike to come with cruise control and the ride-by-wire borrowed from the Gaokin GK1200.
The Gaokin GK1000 is expected to be priced around CNY 5000 or Rs 5.85 lakh. For reference, the Benda LFC 700 costs an equivalent of Rs 5.26 lakh, and uses a 680cc inline-four motor making 93.8PS and 65Nm, and even has its unique styling. Just like Gaokin, Benda too has been on the forefront when it comes to developing original products, and though the GK1000 is a good attempt at a cruiser, it falls short against Benda’s mid-displacement cruiser.
