Garware would launch entry-level sports bikes in India

The Pune based Garware Motors which is Indian partner of Korea based Hyosung bikes, is all set to launch entry-level bikes in India. The company is in talks with S&T Motors which is parent firm of Hyosung.

Garware Motors Managing Director Diya Garware Ibanez quoted as saying that the company would launch 125cc to 250cc bikes in India to get benefit of ever-growing lower-end bike segment. The Indian premium bike market grew leaps and bounds between April 2010 to January 2011, it has got 24 per cent growth. And 7.4 million entry-level sports motorcycles has been sold in Indian market as per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Right now, Indian entry-level sports bike market is dominated by Bajaj Auto that registered around 28 per cent growth in the 125cc to 250cc bike segment and its major selling bikes are Bajaj Pulsar and Bajaj Discover 150. HMSI holds the second place with Honda Stunner, Honda Unicorn and Honda Dazzler. And Hero Honda is settled down at third position with its flagship models: Hero Honda Karizma and Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme and Hero Honda Hunk.

On the other hand, Kawasaki Ninja and Honda CBR 250R are the most popular 250cc bikes in India; So now, Garware Motors to mingle in the lucrative segment by launching same engine displacement bikes. The company has announced two new bikes for Indian market previous year that would be launched in the month of April this year. The upcoming super bikes are Hyosung GT650R street and Hyosung ST7 cruiser. The announced price for GT650R is Rs. 5.5 lakh and for ST7 it is Rs. 6 lakh. Both the bikes will be assembled in India so their parts are being importing from Korea. 

The company has targeted II tier and III tier cities of India and plans to open dealership counters in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Chennai in 2011. It is also planning to have dealership in Trivandrum, Cochin, Indore and Dimapur market.
