Previous month, two test cruisers were spotted on the roads of NCR. The bikes were covered by black paint to hide the acquaintance. At very first look, they seemed to be looking like upcoming Hyosung GV250 Aquila. But the Aquila had already made its public debut, so there is no reason behind hiding the identity of the bike. When we look at the engine of the bike on test, it looks like the V-twin engine of Harley Davidson, and now there are reports coming in confirming that it was the upcoming HD bike under test for the Asian market. The bike is not ready for production, However, the bike is at an advanced mode of its development, and soon it will be produced in India.
The bike will be the most affordable HD bike with a price tag of around 4-4.5 lakh. The power mill used in the bike will be a new 500cc, V-twin engine, which is one of the smallest engines ever produced by the company. The expected maximum power of the bike is 45bhp, while the expected torque is 55Nm. Currently, the cheapest HD bike in India is Superlow with a price tag of Rs. 5.71 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Superlow also holds the small 883cc, V-twin engine of the company.
The new entry level HD motorcycle will be based on the G-Platform and they are planning to use more localized materials for the manufacturing, which will help to reduce the cost. Right now, the company has one assembling plant in India, but they are planning for a manufacturing plant. This new bike can be the first product from the Indian manufacturing unit of the company.
Currently, there is only one bike in India which can be a rival for the new bike, Hyosung GV650 Aquila Pro, which comes in a price range of around Rs. 5 lakh in India. But everyone knows that the Harley Davidson is the World's Cruiser king. So, it'll be interesting to inspect the battle taking place between the two.
