Harley Davidson is for now making the most of being the "one of its kind" bike in the country. Every possible attempt has been made and every possible plan is being implemented to exploit the Indian market and to take the legendary cruiser bike manufacturing company forward. The company is making plans to assemble more models at the Bawal district in the Haryana facility. This is only the second manufacturing plant that has been implemented by Harley Davidson outside the United States. The other manufacturing plant outside the US is located in Brazil. This obviously shows that the company sees huge opportunity in India and would like to expand their domain as wide as possible and as quickly as possible.
The company currently has 15 models in the Indian Market. Five models out of these fifteen are assembled in the Bawal plant. The company is raring to go after the result of their extensive research on the country's market and the feedback it has received from the customers. Mr Anoop Prakash, Managing Director, Harley Davidson India stated that the company has a deep interest in assembling more models at the Bawal Plant. He also said that such decisions solely depend on the what the customer demands and if they are looking for a specific model then the company may consider assembling more in India itself.
The company has so far sold 1000 units since its arrival in the Indian market in the year 2009 in August. But they might have to re-think their strategy with Triumph motorcycles nearing their Indian launch. It would be interesting to see how and when Harley Davidson India changes their strategy and how does triumph tackles it. The season of heavy cruiser bikes has begun and though the competition is fierce, the country is sure to benefit from the race.
