Harley Davidson to become Affordable in India with 250-300cc bikes?

Recently, Harley Davidson has unveiled India-bound entry level bikes Street 500 and Street 750 at EICMA. Now, the company is planning to develop more affordable 250-300cc bikes for the Indian market.

Harley Davidson Street bikes will be manufactured in India for both domestic sales and export purpose. Likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 4-5 lakh, the affordable bikes are expected to be launched by the next year. The bikes will be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.

Currently, Harley Davidson assembles its products in India, however, the company is now planning to develop new affordable products locally. We all know that it is difficult for the company to introduce H-D bikes at the commuters cost, but it is true that the price range of Rs. 4-5 lakh is much higher considering the Indian market. So, the next step to increase the market share in India is to develop more affordable 250-300cc bikes.

These entry level cruiser could be offered at a cost comparative to the cost of Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500, Honda CBR250R, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Hyosung GT250 in India. So, this will help the company to smoothly shifts from niche bike maker to entry level performance bike maker. And, a H-D bike will be a good offer in this price range and could become a strong competitor in the segment.
