The Yamaha R15 V3.0 draws inspiration from its bigger sibling- the R6
The R15 has attracted hordes of nascent and experienced bikers alike due to its sharp dynamics, high revving punchy 150cc mill and superbike levels of quality and ergonomics in one small, accessible package. Since launch in 2008, it received a mid-life update in 2011 and christened the R15 v2.0. That was five years back and the R15 is due for another update. Now Yamaha sells the R15 v2.0 in Indonesia as well and spy pics of the v2.0 replacement have surfaced on the streets of Indonesia. What will most probably be known as the R15 v3.0 seems to use the underpinnings of the Yamaha M Slaz, another 150cc naked sold overseas.
From the spy pics, it seems that the bodywork is inspired from the newly launched YZF-R6, especially the tail section. In an interview with Financial Times, Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt Ltd quoted, “The R15 will become better in its next iteration. No details can be shared as to what exactly the specifications would be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety.”
The specs looks promising with upside down forks (a first for a 150 sold here), LED tail lamps, and Aluminium pillion foot pegs. The bike will take time to come to India as it is yet to be launched in Indonesia and yet to undergo homologation here. Watch this space for more information about the bike.
