Indian Motorcycle is all set to launch the FTR 1200 S and 1200 S Race Replica in India on 19 August. While the standard FTR1200 S is priced at Rs 14.99 lakh, the Race Replica variant will retail at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom India). The bike maker has already commenced booking for both motorcycles at a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.
Powering the FTR 1200 S is a bored-out version of the 1133cc motor from the Indian Scout. This engine belts out 121.7PS of power and 115.2Nm of torque, a bump of 20PS and 18Nm over the Scout’s. The flat-tracker gets all the electronic goodies such as ride-by-wire, three rider modes (Sport, Standard and Rain), traction control, wheelie control, six-axis IMU, cornering ABS (first for a production-spec Indian) and a slip-and-assist clutch. The frame is suspended on a fully adjustable 43mm separate cartridge USD front fork and fully adjustable piggyback monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by a Brembo 320mm disc with four-piston calipers at the front and a 260mm disc with a two-piston caliper at the rear.
Apart from some custom motorcycles (mostly Royal Enfields), India hasn’t seen a proper flat-track-styled motorcycle, making the Indian FTR 1200 S the first to tap this unchartered territory.
