- Unlikely to come to India.
Chinese two-wheeler brands aren’t particularly known for producing radical designs. Instead, they are recognised for taking the easy way out. And we all know what that is. However, there are certain manufacturers that beg to differ. And one of them is Kiden Motorcycles, which is making waves in the two-wheeler industry with the mean-looking KD150-U, a proper naked streetfighter with a 150cc heart.
We think the top brass of the company had a simple design brief for the designers. Make it look as mental as possible. And the designers delivered! Each body panel is designed to be sharp and angular with panels changes being highlighted by different materials and colours. The use of pearlescent blue and gold adds depth to the bike. Interestingly, the exhaust design looks like it draws inspiration from the Yamaha YZR-M1 - Monster Energy MotoGP bike. Look closely though and you’d notice a familiar face. Does the CFMoto 300NK ring a bell?
Illumination comprises of a twin projector headlamp, an LED tail light and turn indicators which also seem to be LED units. The instrument console is all digital and displays information like fuel-gauge, engine temperature, a clock and battery status, among others.
Powering the bike is a liquid-cooled 148.8cc motor that delivers 17.6PS at 9000rpm and 16Nm at 7000rpm. The bike comes equipped with 12-litre fuel tank.
Underpinnings include an upside fork, a monoshock and a caste aluminium swingarm. Its braking setup comprises of disc brakes at both ends paired with dual-channel ABS. Its 17-inch dual-tone alloys come wrapped in chunky radial tyres.
Unfortunately, the bike is unlikely to make it to India. However, considering performance oriented bikes like the Yamaha R15 V3, MT-15 and KTM 125 Duke already exist, we really hope Kiden considers it for our market.
The KD150-U has been designed and developed by manufacturers Shengshi and Qidian, subsidiaries of Guangdong Daye Motorcycle. Each plays a different role. Where Qiadian takes care of the design bit, Shengshi is solely focused on marketing.
