Mahindra Gusto- the 110cc scooter to be launched on 29th September

Mahindra's upcoming 110cc scooter, codenamed as the G101 is finally going to be launched on the 29th September, 2014. It has been christened as the Gusto. The name 'Gusto' means enjoyment in doing something, which relates the scooter to enthusiasm of riding. The all new Mahindra Gusto will target not only the youth but people from all walks of life interested in 110cc segment, thus it will be competing with most of the two-wheelers in the segment including Honda Activa, Hero Maestro and TVS Jupiter.

Powering the Mahindra Gusto is an all aluminium 109.6cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine, which is capable to deliver 8bhp of maximum power and 8.5Nm of peak torque. Maximum power of the scooter is obtained around 7,500rpm, while the torque curve remains almost constant with top figures coming between 5,000 - 6,000rpm. Top speed of the scooter has been claimed to be 80kmph and the acceleration is much better than many offerings in the segment.

To improve the ride quality and handling, it will come with bigger 12" steel wheels along with telescopic front forks. Wheelbase of the scooter is 1275mm, which is larger than the segment leader and the ground clearance of 165mm is largest among all scooters in India. It has also got lots of unique features that will be announced with the pricing of the scooter on 29th September and these will be the deciding factors for the market response for Mahindra Gusto.

 

Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive – Farm Equipment & Two Wheeler Division & Member of the Group Executive Board said, “We are set to introduce our new global scooter, the GUSTO, created at our state-of-the-art R&D facility in Pune. The name GUSTO is a derivative of 'gust’ which connotes a sudden strong current of wind, symbolizing the spirit of freedom.  GUSTO comes with an all Aluminium M-TEC engine with advanced features such as a stronger crankshaft and bearings, high inertia magneto, high energy HT coil and series regulator to deliver superior power, efficiency and reliability.”

 

He added, “The Gusto’s distinctive, contemporary styling has its origins in Italy and it has been conceptualized based on extensive research and in-depth consumer insights.  After rigorous testing and validation we are now ready to launch the GUSTO in the Northern and Western markets of India and Nepal, on September 29.  We will launch in the Southern and Eastern markets of India as well as South Asia, Central America and Africa, in a few months.”
