Mahindra is testing a new motorcycle that has been spied recently and it looks almost ready for production. Instead of a regular commuter, the upcoming product looks more like a utility bike with a more powerful engine. In the spy shots, we can see that a luggage carrier replaces the common rear grab rails and are present on both the sides as well. Besides that, there is minimal body work on the chassis with most of the necessary features. The new powertrain in the upcoming Mahindra is reported to get a basic 155cc motor and it will target the rural market.
There is a round headlamp on the bike along with round turn indicators and rear view mirrors. The twin pod console gets a speedometer, odometer and some other telltale lights. The bike however, misses on a fuel gauge and a trip meter. The basic fuel tank gels with the flat seat and the single piece handlebar.
The suspension set-up on the upcoming 155cc Mahindra is also very basic with telescopic front and twin, spring-loaded shock absorbers at the rear. It also features durable wire-spoke wheel rims. Focusing on the rural market, the new engine could be tuned for better torque delivery i.e. more load capacity.
Currently, Mahindra is offering a range of commuters- the Centuro and a performance motorcycle- the Mojo along with the scooter range including the Gusto 110, the Gusto 125 and the Rodeo UZO. Now, the company definitely needs a product to bridge the gap between its motorcycles. So, we can also expect a premium 155cc commuter to follow the utility motorcycle.
