This off-road-ready RX 135 has been built by Delhi-based GM Customs
With lockdowns imposed and no motorcycle rides, life has gotten rather mundane. In a mildly successful attempt to subdue our boredom, we’ve come across one of the most neatly customised Yamaha RX 135s in India
Before we theoretically dismantle it, do remember the bike has been commissioned for a customer and isn’t up for sale.
All the existing RX 135s are more than a decade and a half old, at least. This specific bike started its life back in the early 90s.
Surprisingly, no modifications have been made to the two-stroke carbureted motor, mated to the five-speed gearbox. Everything else is either custom-built or sourced from another bike.
The first and the most notable mod on this RX 135 is its dirt bike bodywork. The crafty folks at GM Customs have replaced the tank cover, fenders and side panels with in-house parts. The chassis has also been slightly altered to support the new kit.

Apart from keeping it road-legal by adding a couple of LED headlights and a side-mounted licence plate, the RX 135 dirt bike is quite practical too. It gets rear footpegs as well as cuts on the side panels for the pillion to hold.
The speedometer has been skipped and the handlebar has been locally sourced. Since this RX 135 has been built for off-roading, the original telescopic fork has made way for a Bajaj Pulsar-sourced front suspension. The monoshock has been lifted off the Honda Unicorn.
A front disc and a rear drum brake setup take care of the anchoring duty. It rolls on a 19-inch front spoke wheel wrapped in IRC knobby and a 17-inch rear shod with MRF rubber. The exposed air filter is also locally sourced.
All said and done, GM Customs has quoted approximate Rs 55,000 to Rs 60,000 for the mod job, excluding the donor bike. This seems to be rather easy on the pocket when compared to buying a hardcore dirt bike and its timely maintenance costs.
So, if you own a Yamaha RX 135 and have big plans for it, ring the Delhi-based workshop for a snazzy mod job as per your requirements.
