Let’s see how Oben EV's new sporty e-bike stacks up against the Tork Kratos in images
This Republic Day we witnessed the launch of the Tork Kratos. And, now Oben Electric, a Bengaluru-based EV startup has launched its Rorr e-bike. Both the electric bikes are pretty closely spec'd,. so let's find out which one is worth your money.
Starting with the design, the Oben Rorr gets a neo-retro design while the Tork Kratos features a sharp and sporty look. The Tork Kratos might also remind you of a few petrol-powered bikes.
The fascia of the Oben Rorr features a circular LED headlight while the Tork Kratos gets a triangular LED headlight unit. Both e-bikes also do get slim LED turn indicators.
Moving to the side you'll see that there are a few similarities as both the bikes feature a few sharp body panels, a split-type seat and twin rear grab handles.
Both e-bikes get a lean tail section that houses an LED tail light with integrated number plate holder and rear indicators.
Talking about the features, the Oben Rorr comes equipped with a battery theft protection system and a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. The Rorr also gets connected features such as geo-fencing, geo-tagging, charging station locator, predictive maintenance alert, ride details, battery status, on-demand service, and roadside assistance.
The Tork Kratos on the other hand, features a fully digital dash with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, a USB charging port, anti-theft system, safe home feature, ride analytics, guide me home lights, OTA updates and regenerative braking system. The 'R' variant of the Tork Kratos also gets connected features such as geo-fence, motor walk assist, vacation mode, track mode and crash alert.
The Oben Rorr uses a 4.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack that takes two hours to fully charge. This battery pack offers a range of 200km under Ideal Driving Conditions (IDC) while the true range of the Rorr is claimed to be 100km in Havoc, 120km in City, and 150km in Eco mode. The e-bike is powered by a 10kW frame-mounted permanent magnet motor that lends it a claimed top speed of 100kmph and 0-40kmph acceleration time of 3 seconds.
The Tork Kratos features a 4kWh lithium-ion battery that charges up to 80 percent in less than an hour using the fast charging option (only for the R model). This battery pack offers 180km of IDC range and 120km of real-world range. The e-bike is propelled by a 4kW axial flux motor that delivers 7.5kW/28Nm for the base model and 9kW/38Nm for the Kratos R. This motor gives the e-bike a top speed of 100kmph and 105kmph for the standard model and the R variant respectively. The Kratos also gets four riding modes (eco, city, sport and reverse). Talking about the 0-40kmph acceleration test, the standard claims to do it in 4 seconds while the R variant takes 3.5 seconds.
The ride of both the e-bikes is taken care of by a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. For braking, the Rorr gets a single petal disc at both ends while the Kratos uses a normal disc setup. Both e-bikes do feature a combined braking system (CBS). The wheel setup is also identical as they roll on 17-inch alloys.
The Oben Rorr is offered in just one variant that is priced at Rs 94,999. The Tork Kratos gets a standard and R variant, the former is priced at Rs 1,02,499 while the latter costs Rs 1,17,499. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi (including FAME II and the state subsidy).
Moving to the conclusion, both the electric bikes are similarly spec'd but the Oben Rorr has the upper hand when it comes to the claimed range. Moreover, it is also considerably more affordable than the Kratos. If the Oben Rorr lives up to its claims and performs well in the real world, it has a good chance to grab the market share away from the Tork Kratos. Design-wise, those who are looking for a neo-retro electric bike will find the Rorr appealing and those who want an aggressive, sporty looking e-bike will lean more towards the Tork Kratos.
