When Ola gives with one hand, it takes from the other!

Ola is arguably India’s most popular EV scooter with sales steadily rising every month. However, the Bangalore based EV maker has opened the next purchase window for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooter. But that’s not all. Following up on its announcement from April, there is a revision in the asking price for the S1 Pro model, which now costs Rs 10,000 more than before.

As per the old pricing, the Ola S1 was retailed at Rs 99,999 and the S1 Pro at Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). While the pricing for the S1 remains unchanged, at Rs 1,39,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru) the Ola S1 Pro will be a shade more expensive than before. As per Ola’s website, these prices are ex-showroom, including GST and FAME II subsidies, but excluding state subsidies. Customers can pre-book a scooter for 499, following which, when the purchase window opens, a deposit of Rs 20,000 must be made and balance must be paid before delivery.

It now offers test rides across five new cities. Additionally, since a customer managed to extract almost 200km of range from his Ola scooter, post the new Move 2.0 OTA update, Ola has announced a new contest. The next 10 customers to extract 200km of range from their Ola scooters shall be awarded a free S1 Pro Gerua scooter and be hosted at its FutureFactory too. The journey for Ola has not been the smoothest, especially with some of its scooters getting caught in the on-going EV scooter fire crisis, leading to the EV maker issuing a recall of 1,441 of its scooters.

The Ola electric scooter goes up against the Ather 450X, TVS iQube Electric, Simple One and Bajaj Chetak. Even with the new price hike, the S1 Pro is Rs 10,658 cheaper than the Ather 450X which costs Rs 1,50,657 (ex-showroom Bengaluru), while offering better range and features. Also, in a more recent development, TVS announced three new variants of the iQube with new colours and features, and upgraded battery packs offering more range.
