“There’s an Ola scooter for everyone” is what we learnt at the recent Ola event

A week ago, Ola Electric sent us a cryptic message saying “updates are in the air.” At the time, we expected it to be revolving around the launch of the more affordable S1 Air. However, the event threw in pleasant surprises, with new variants (yes, plural!) of both the S1 and S1 Air. Here are the details

Ola S1 Air

The entry-level model in the lineup now gets three variants. The battery capacity on the first – 2kWh – variant is slightly less than the 2.5kWh capacity that Ola had initially claimed to offer the scooter in. Interestingly, though, the 2.5kWh version has been skipped, and a 3kWh and 4kWh variant will additionally be offered.

All three variants use an identical 4.5kW motor. Hence the chief differentiator between the three is the claimed range, with the 2kWh, 3kWh and 4kWh models slated to impart a claimed 85km, 125km and 165km, respectively.

The base 2kWh variant retails at Rs 84,999* (same as the 2.5kWh variant that was to go on sale). Meanwhile the 3kWh and 4kWh models will be priced at Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,09,999, respectively.

Ola S1

The mid-level model in Ola’s lineup, the Ola S1, also benefits from a new variant. So though the 8.5kW motor has been carried over, the lower-spec S1 too gets a smaller 2kWh battery with a claimed 91km range, and retails at Rs 99,999.

The other model in the S1 range, as well as the range-topping S1 Pro, stay unchanged. However, while the S1 is now Rs 4,000 costlier, the S1 Pro has got Rs 3,000 more affordable.

Bookings and Delivery Timelines

The registrations of the 2kWh Ola S1 Air are already open, with deliveries set to start in July 2023. Also, the 2kWh variant of the S1 has gone on sale. And finally, good news for those who had reserved the previous (2.5kWh) model of the S1 Air, as they get a free upgrade to the 3kWh model.

Ultimately, though, we believe it’s a masterstroke from Ola, with the promise of a different model almost customised for those with varying requirements.

So which model suits your daily commute requirements the best? We’d love to know!
