Ola Solo Self-Driving and Self-Balancing Scooter Tech

On April 1, 2024, Ola Electric dropped a video showcasing the Ola Solo, a self-driving scooter technology. The video showcased that with Ola Solo, you no longer have to ride the scooter yourself and will just have to enjoy the ride on the pillion seat, it also showed that the scooter goes to the nearest hypercharger when its battery gets low. Of course, it turned out to be an April Fools joke.

However, many believed it to be true and Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal later tweeted clarifying that the video was just for laughs. But Bhavish also revealed that Ola has been working on a prototype of a self-driving electric scooter which features autonomous driving and self-balancing tech.

Such technology is not something new in the two-wheeler industry; Liger Mobility had revealed India's first self-balancing scooter back at the 2023 Auto Expo. However, we think that a practical version of a self-driving and self-balancing scooter will still take some time to make its way to the Indian markets. Besides,  considering the traffic and roads in India, the vehicle would have to be really advanced, with the ability to constantly make efficient split-second decisions.

Ola Achieves Highest-Ever Registrations

Ola S1 range records 53,000 registrations

In March, Ola saw a record-breaking 53,000 registrations, as per VAHAN Portal. This accounts for the manufacturer's highest-ever monthly registrations. Previously, Ola also recorded 35,000 registrations in February and 31,000 registrations in January 2024.

The company also maintained its leading market share, growing by 42 percent quarterly with 119,310 units registered in Q4 FY24, compared to 84,133 units in the previous quarter. In FY24, the company saw a 115 percent year-on-year(YoY) growth with 328,785 units registered, up from 152,741 units in FY23.

With the FAME 2 subsidies ending, Ola announced discounts of up to Rs 25,000 on the S1 range which were later extended till April 5, 2024. These discounts can be one of the main reasons for a boom in registration figures. Additionally, Ola offers a range of products from the affordable S1 X, and S1 Air to the premium S1 Pro.
