The ‘Electric-BharatMala’ ride will span over 14,000km

Bengaluru-based Orxa Energies is set to attempt the world's longest EV ride spanning 14,216km. Called 'Electric-BharatMala", the world-record-setting ride will be attempted on the Orxa Mantis electric bike, which made its first public appearance at the 2019 India Bike Week.

As of today, the longest successful ride ever on an EV has spanned 12,379km.

Orxa will be backed by SpareIT, a popular EV service hub, PotholeRaja, a social movement started for smooth roads, and Charzer, a company with a wide EV charging network. The ‘Electric-BharatMala’ ride is also supported by the Karnataka Transport Minister.

The ‘Electric-BharatMala’ ride will flag off on February 4, 2022, from Bengaluru towards Kanyakumari, along the Bay of Bengal coast towards West Bengal, and then on to Northeast India. From there, the bikes will move North and then to the Rann of Kutchh. The final leg of the ride takes the riders through the Western Ghats before concluding in Bengaluru. This ride is estimated to be completed in 54 days.

The Orxa Mantis, under development for four years, has a claimed top speed of 140kmph from its mid-mounted motor. The electric bike features battery swapping tech (thus cutting down charging time) and boasts of a claimed range of 200km. This makes the EV apt for long-distance touring.

Since its IBW debut, there was no news of the bike’s launch until now. However, now it seems Orxa was working on the Mantis throughout. The bodywork has been updated, and the fit and finish of the bike has probably been worked on too. Now, with the Tork Kratos debut around the corner, and Ultraviolette F77 gearing for an early-2022 launch, it is about time the Mantis hits the streets too.
