Mahindra-made Peugeot e-Ludix electric scooters have joined the French Presidential fleet

  • The e-scooters are manufactured at Mahindra’s plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.
  • Mahindra is set to acquire full ownership of Peugeot Motorcycles soon.
  • The e-Ludix could be sold in India in the near future.

Mahindra recently started exporting its Peugeot-branded e-scooters to Europe, and now the e-Ludix has joined the French Presidential fleet at the Palais de l’Elysée. This makes it the first-ever electric two-wheeler to join the presidential fleet, and the e-Ludix is also the first electric two-wheeler to be exported from India.

The e-Ludix scooters are manufactured at Mahindra’s plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh before being exported to Europe. The e-scooter packs in a 3kW motor and a Bosch lithium-ion battery pack. These allow it a top speed of 45kmph and a range of around 50km, making it a good urban runabout. One of the most impressive specs is the weight, with the e-Ludix tipping the scales at just 85kg.

In addition to the e-Ludix, Mahindra is also planning to launch seven new products under the Peugeot Motorcycles brand between 2019 and 2021, courtesy of a Rs 110 crore investment towards product development.

Mahindra acquired a 51 per cent stake in Peugeot Motorcycles back in 2015 and has recently announced its plans to completely acquire the French brand. The company is already manufacturing the e-Ludix in India for export and the Pithampur plant has an annual capacity of 7,50,000 units. With seven new products on the way, it is quite possible that we could see Mahindra or Peugeot badged e-scooters being sold in our country sometime in the near future.
