The renowned Polaris Industries, which is also the owner of Indian Motorcycles is planning to bring most of its motorcycles in the country via Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route. Currently, the company imports products from its only plant situated in Minnesota, United States. Confirming the news, Mr. Pankaj Dubey, Polaris India Managing Director said, "We are not immediately looking at having assembly of completely knocked down (CKD) units here, but we are exploring possibilities of having CKD assembly here in next three to five years,"

The company took this decision after it saw endless opportunities in the day-by-day flourishing Indian two-wheeler market. The most affordable motorcycle of the company, Indian Scout contributes more than fifty percent in the overall sales in the country, hence the company believes that its localised assembly will help it stay more competitive against premium brands like Harley Davidson.

Presently, the motorcycles above 800cc attract an import duty of 75 percent and since all models of Indian motorcycles fall under this category, it will bring a steep downfall in the prices which will eventually help in digging its roots well in the Indian Automotive market.

Polaris currently serves the nation through its two Indian Motorcycle dealerships located in Delhi and Gurgaon. Meanwhile, the company is planning to bring its four new dealerships at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad. Out of these, the Mumbai and Chennai outlets will be opened next month while the remaining two will become operational by August. The company aims at a total of 12 dealerships across the country by 2016.

Polaris Industries is an American snowmobile and off-road vehicle manufacturer which gained the possession of Indian Motorcycles in 2011 and unveiled an all-new range of exquisite motorcycles in the year 2013.
