The Yamaha MotoGP riders- Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have revealed the all new 2015 Yamaha R1 during a press meet in Milan, Italy. Both the highly experienced riders have a major contribution in the development of this new machine, said Yamaha. The new R1 is influenced aesthtically by the design of their MotoGP machine- YZR-M1.
Yamaha R1 is one of the most popular superbike across the world, thus it is not easy to change the styling of the bike. However, Yamaha has redesigned the entire model perfectly. The fairing, fuel tank, console, wheels, seat, rear panels, headlights, tail lamps, indicators, etc, all are new along with the dual under seat muffler, replaced by a single side exhaust.
Powering the 2015 Yamaha R1 is a new 998cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine, retaining the same crossplane technology from the current model. However, the new powertrain features some highly advance systems like titanium exhaust and fracture-split connecting rods along with a 10.5 litre airbox for better flow. Using fully controlled fuel injection, the new mill churns out 200hp of maximum power at 13,500rpm along with an extreme torque of 112.4Nm at 10,500rpm. To provide a smooth transmission, it comes mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox via a slipper clutch arrangement for quick shifting.
The new Yamaha R1 has been assembled on a diamond type frame keeping the overall dimensions (Length x Width x Height) at 2,055mm x 690mm x 1,150mm and the wheelbase at 1,405mm. The seat height of 855mm includes 130mm of the ground clearance, which looks sufficient for both tracks as well as decent roads. Along with a 3.9 litre oil tank and 17 litre fuel tank, the bike weighs just 199 kg in running condition. New alloys of th bike are made of magnesium to cut down the weight and covered with front 120/70 and rear 190/55 section tyres. The bike gets 43mm inverted forks, while a swing-arm arrangement with mono-link suspension damp the shocks on rear wheel. The unified braking system of the bike consists of 320mm dual front and 20mm single rear disks along with ABS assistance for excellent and safe braking.
With the cutting egde MotoGP derived electronic control technology, 2015 Yamaha R1 is now one of the most advanced machines in the two wheeler industry. It is the first street spec motorcycle to get the six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which enables it to provide a total 3D controlled ride experience. Other standard features of the bike are quickshifter, launch control, front wheel lift control, slide control, banking sensitive traction control, a bright TFT screen and ultra bright LED headlights. Communication Control Unit (CCU) is the optional feature for downloading the GPS data and uploading the ride settings.
With three dynamic colour options- Yamaha Blue/White, Raven Black and Red/White, the 2015 Yamaha R1 has been priced at $16,490 in the US.
