With its funky colours and graphics, the Bear really does look amazing
Royal Enfield has finally unveiled their much-awaited scrambler, the Bear 650, giving us a good look at what it has to offer. The Bear 650 is based on the Royal Enfield Interceptor but comes with quite a few changes to its looks, underpinnings, and features. Here’s everything you need to know.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Design
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 features the same retro-style design as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, but with a few changes that make it stand out. First of which is the more funky-looking colours and graphics.
The bike is offered in 5 colour schemes: Golden Shadow, Petrol Green, Boardwalk White, and Wild Honey. The brand is also offering a special edition called Two Four Nine, which pays homage to Eddie Mulder, who was the youngest champion at the California Big Bear Run. The bike features a competition number board mounted on the side panel, which gives it a sporty look overall.
Other changes to the design include, the engine crankcase and piston head getting a black finish which makes the bike stand out a bit. The bike gets a 2-into-1 exhaust, which looks quite compact when compared to the twin-exhaust setup that we had seen on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Overall, with these changes, the bike looks really good and manages to carve out a distinct identity of its own.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Engine And Performance
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 features the same engine as the Interceptor 650, which is a 648cc air & oil-cooled parallel-twin motor.
The engine has undergone a few changes and now outputs 47.4 PS at 7150rpm and 56.5 Nm at 5150rpm, which is 8 percent more torque than before. The engine is linked to a 6-speed gearbox and will come with a slip-and-assist clutch.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Underpinnings
The Bear 650 is built on a double cradle steel tubular frame and features a suspension setup that comprises a 43mm inverted fork with 130mm wheel travel, and twin shock absorbers with 115mm wheel travel. Overall, the bike has a ground clearance of 184mm which is 10mm more than the Interceptor 650’s 174mm.
Coming to the wheels, the Bear 650 gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup. Braking duties are taken care of by a 320mm front and a 270mm rear disc, with dual channel ABS.
To suit the bike’s off-road character, Royal Enfield has also given switchable ABS in the rear, which allows the rider to turn off ABS in the rear wheel for controlled slides.
That said, the bike is still a bit towards the heavier side with its kerb weight (wet) coming to 216kg.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Features
The console used on the Bear 650 is the same 4-inch TFT display that we have seen on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the Guerrilla 450. The console offers full-fledged navigation via Google Maps, along with features such as music controls.
The addition of this console gives the Bear 650 a more modern touch, and the features it has to offer are a welcome addition.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Expected Price And Launch
We expect the Royal Enfield Bear 650 to be launched at EICMA 2024, so somewhere between 7th to 10th November. The bike could come at a price that is around Rs 3.50 lakh ex-showroom.
