The bike features a similar design layout for the exhaust but looks a lot slimmer and sleeker than before
- The larger Intruder is likely to be based on Suzuki’s new 250cc platform.
- It may come with improved mechanicals.
- It will be the only 250cc cruiser in the country, once launched.
Back in November 2019, Suzuki had revealed its plans of introducing a quarter-litre Intruder for the Indian market. The notion now seems to be coming to life in the form of patent images which give us an idea of what the bike looks like. And it makes perfect sense considering Suzuki already has the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250 in its Indian portfolio. All the Japanese manufacturers had to do is plonk the engine in an existing design, and walla, you have a 250cc Intruder.
Having said that, Suzuki did have to make some alterations to use the 250cc engine in the existing Intruder 150 design. For instance, the design patent reveals a new exhaust system with a single header and a catalytic converter. The cat-con splits into a similar dual-barrel exhaust system as seen on the 150 Intruder. However, the design is a lot different. This unit is much slimmer and sleeker than the original one that made the bike look a bit disproportionate. Apart from this, the bike looks identical to the BS6 Intruder 150.
It’s likely to be powered by the same 249cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine that runs the Gixxer 250 and the SF 250. In its current state of tune, the motor generates 26.5PS at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7300rpm, mated to a 6-speed transmission.
It may carry over the same mechanicals as its 250cc cousins, so we could expect to see fatter forks and a monoshock with brushed finished alloy wheels, a larger front disc (300mm) with dual-channel ABS, and radial tyres.
The Intruder 250 will be the first quarter-litre cruiser when it hits Indian shores, which means it won’t have any direct rival. It’s expected to debut in India by July 2021 with an expected price tag of around Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom), a premium of around Rs 10,000 over the current Gixxer SF 250.
