Japanese bike maker, Suzuki, has revealed that it is planning to expand its 250cc platform by adding a 250cc cruiser, which is likely to be called the Intruder 250. This isn’t the first time the manufacturer has announced its intention of expanding its new 250cc model lineup. During the launch of the 2019 Gixxer SF and the Gixxer SF 250, the bike maker had confirmed that it’s working on a 250cc cruiser.
The upcoming cruiser will be based on the new 250cc platform, but expect Suzuki to tweak the underpinnings to give the 250cc cruiser an easy and laid-back riding stance. It is highly likely that the Intruder 250 will come equipped with the same set of features as seen on the new Gixxer 250s. For instance, it will come equipped with LED lights at the front and back and a digital instrument cluster.
Powering the new Intruder the will be the same 249cc fuel-injected SOHC unit as seen on the Gixxer SF 250. This motor produces 26.5PS and 22.6Nm, however, expect Suzuki to tweak the engine to suit its character. Moreover, the new Intruder 250 will be the first 250cc bike in Suzuki’s portfolio to be BS6-compliant.
When is Suzuki planning to launch the Intruder 250? Well, there’s no word from the manufacturer as yet, but we expect it to make its first appearance at the upcoming Auto Expo. Once launched, the Intruder 250 will be the first quarter-litre cruiser in the country, so it won’t have any direct rivals. We expect it to retail for Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom), which is around Rs 10,000 more than the current Gixxer SF 250. Apart from the big-engined Intruder, Suzuki might also showcase a 150cc+ scooter at the Auto Expo of which details are scarce right now. Stay tuned to BikeDekho for updates.
