See how the Taiwanese scooter fares against its Japanese counterpart
The 2022 SYM DRGBT 160 is out and it looks sporty and how! Here's how it stacks up against the sportiest desi rival, the Yamaha Aerox 155 in images:
The DRGBT looks every bit futuristic, almost unreal. The ‘Italian drago’ (if the translation is right) inspired styling coupled with an all-LED lighting looks absolutely rad. Both the scooters have sharp front ends with eye-like LED headlights.
The Aerox on the other hand looks a bit more compact visually, but sharper and its design is oriented towards the younger crowd. The red graphics coupled with the red rims look youthful and so does the sharp front fascia housing the LED headlight. Unfortunately, it makes do with halogen indicators.
On the features front, the DRGBT 160 features a full digital instrument cluster. Like the Aerox, the DRGBT also gets an idling start/stop system too.
The Aerox is loaded to the brim when it comes to features. Along with the idle-stop/start system, it also gets a silent engine start, a step-up-type seat, apron-mounted storage space with USB charging port, external fuel filler lid and side engine cut-off.
A kerb weight of 126kg and the seat height being at 790mm make the Yamaha Aerox 155 unintimidating and friendly. On the other hand, the DRGBT 160, weighing at 135kg and having a seat height of 803mm is that much heavier and taller than the Aerox, making it not very accessible to riders of all sizes.
The DRGBT 160 is equipped with a 158cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine pumping out 14.8PS along with 14.6Nm.
The Aerox 155 on the other hand, is powered by a Yamaha R15-based 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor with an output rated at 14.95PS and 13.9Nm.
The DRGBT gets conventional telescopic forks up front along with a monoshock at the rear, enhancing its looks. 260mm and 230mm discs handle the braking department at the front and the rear respectively. The DRGBT edges ahead of the Aerox by getting a dual-channel ABS.
The ride for the Aerox 155 is taken care of by a telescopic fork at the front along with twin rear shock absorbers. For the braking front, it gets a disc brake up front along with drum brakes at the rear. Unfortunately, the Aerox makes do with a single-channel ABS, which is a bit of a let-down, given its price.
The DRGBT 160’s dragon inspired LED tail lights look stunning. While the Aerox makes do with bulb indicators, the DRGBT gets LED indicators too.
The Aerox, on the other hand, looks a lot slimmer and more compact from behind too.
Priced at EUR 3,195, translating to about Rs 2.59 lakh, the DRGBT 160 is quite an expensive proposition. The Yamaha Aerox 155 at Rs 1.35 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi) makes it a good value-for-money product. Its primary rival in India is the Aprilia SR 160.
