The Ather 450X-rivalling e-scooter has a claimed range of 240km
Almost a year after its first announcement, Bengaluru-based Simple Energy has confirmed that it will launch its e-scooter on August 15. In fact, the scooter is already production-ready and was spotted testing last month. The startup has also announced that the Mark 2 (to be renamed at the time of launch) will be priced between Rs 1,10,000 to Rs 1,20,000.
Simple Energy will launch the e-scooter in Bengaluru, where its R&D facility and the production plant is located. Following its launch in India’s Silicon Valley, the company will move to other cities in South India like Chennai and Hyderabad, just like its rival Ather Energy did.
The expansion strategy makes sense given that the Mark 2 will have the Ather 450X in its crosshairs. It packs a 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 240km in eco mode (this is ARAI verified). With a top speed of 100kmph and a claimed 0-50kmph in 3.6 seconds, we will finally have a sporty alternative to the Ather Energy 450X.

The Simple Energy Mark 2 will come with premium features like a touchscreen instrument console with navigation, bluetooth, and even a removable battery. Unlike the Bajaj Chetak and the TVS iQube Electric that were launched with no public charging infrastructure, Simple Energy is working on setting up public charging stations even prior to the launch.
This year, customers looking for a reliable e-scooter will be spoilt for choice. The Suzuki Burgman Electric already seems to be production ready and could arrive during the festive season. Even Ola Electric has been working at full swing to get its first e-scooter not just in India, but in a few foreign markets as well.
