The Jonway Y2 is one of the most affordable e-scooters on sale in Europe
The European market is charged up (a little pun intended) with multiple EVs, ranging from puny e-scooters to high-end Tesla cars. Adding to the former is Jonway, a France-based Chinese brand, which has unveiled the Y2 e-scooter for a staggering 995 Euros (Rs 89,000).
The Chinese maker produces nearly 1 lakh two-wheelers per year to be sold to 80 countries. It is already pretty popular in France, thanks to its affordable offerings.
But there isn’t a lot in terms of design. With its bare-bones frame, the Y2 looks like any other city commuter. It gets a round LED headlamp, LED taillight, black alloys, and a short seat. Its tail end sees a long flat plate, probably to mount luggage, while a small cubby hole is present near the handlebar.

While its design is minimal and neat, the features don’t disappoint. The Y2 electric scooter gets a fully digital instrument cluster, LED lighting, a USB port, and even a remote key with an alarm system.
Propelling the e-scooter is a hub-mounted motor powered by a 960Wh battery, with a claimed range of 50km and a top speed of 45kmph. The battery is removable and takes about five hours to charge. Handling suspension duties on the Y2 are a telescopic fork and dual-shock absorbers.
