On the occasion of World EV Day, we thought we’d shine some light on the five most exciting electric two-wheelers coming our way
Today, after this recent surge in popularity and acceptance, the Indian electric two-wheeler space has many interesting offerings worthy of being in our garages. Some key companies like Honda, Hero, and Suzuki, though, are yet to enter this space with their respective offerings. So, on the occasion of world EV day, here are the top five electric two-wheelers you should keep an eye out for in the near future:
Hero Electric Scooter
On its 10th anniversary, Hero MotoCorp surprised everyone by teasing its upcoming electric scooter. It seemed fairly ready for production as we spotted LED lights, a telescopic fork, drum brakes and alloy wheels on it. The e-scooter was also equipped with split seats, which hints at two underseat storage spaces, one of which could pack removable batteries. For more details, head to our main story.
Suzuki Burgman Electric
The Suzuki Burgman Electric has been in its testing phase for a while now. It’s been spied on Indian soil time and again, and in its latest sighting, it seemed almost ready for production. The Burgman Electric looks similar to the ICE Burgman Street and seems to pack the same underpinnings including the same front disc, telescopic fork, and alloy wheels, but with dual shock absorbers at the rear. The Bluetooth enabled digital instrument cluster could be carried over as well. Here’s everything else we expect from the upcoming e-scooter.
Honda Activa Electric
Yes, Honda could introduce an electric variant under the highly praised Activa name. This is because Honda has been reportedly testing its battery swapping technology in India to establish a strong network of swap stations, which in turn hints that a Honda e-scooter is indeed coming soon. Additionally, Honda’s Benly e electric scooter, a Japanese offering that bears Honda’s swappable batteries, was recently spotted testing in India. The Benley may not be launched in India, though, because the bikemaker will have to price it very aggressively, which is rather difficult as the scooter will have to be heavily localised. Instead, we believe it might bring the upcoming Activa Electric. Here's why.

An Affordable Ather Energy Scooter
After its 450 lineup, Ather Energy is now planning to target the more affordable electric scooter market with a new sub-Rs 1 lakh scooter. However, this is still far off and we expect it to take at least 12 months to pan out. Nevertheless, we’re certainly keen on seeing how Ather’s “affordable” e-scooter performs, since its flagship, the 450X, was a blast during our road test.
Ultraviolette F77 Electric Bike
Bengaluru-based EV startup Ultraviolette has finally revealed the launch timeline of its F77 electric bike. While the bike was first showcased way back in November 2019, thanks to the pandemic, it is hitting the market only now--and by now we mean early 2022. When launched, it will be the most powerful electric motorcycle in our country, with a claimed top speed of 140kmph.
Moreover, Ultraviolette, in the time between its unveil leading up to its launch, claims to have worked on the motorcycle and given it better dynamics and performance than its pre-production self that we were already quite impressed with.
Wishlist: TVS Creon
TVS recently broke its silence and announced that it plans to introduce as many as six EVs in the near future. But what we’re particularly keen about is the TVS Creon electric scooter. Showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the TVS Creon is a sporty electric scooter and will sit above the iQube Electric. (think of it as what the NTorq is to the Jupiter). Judging from the concept shown at the auto expo, the Creon will come with brawny bodywork, all-LED lighting, and a TFT instrument cluster. For more details, check out our story on the Creon’s future.
