UM Motorcycles is planning to sell 3,000 units per month in India and capture around 5% of the total market share in 2 years of starting its operations. Mr. Juan Villegas, Global Director of Business Development, UM International LLC, revealed that the company will be launching only cruiser motorcycles in the country, in the first phase of operations, followed by Sports bikes in the second phase. Earlier, UM Motorcycles confirmed that it will be launching two variants of Renegade Commando at the 2016 Auto Expo that will be its first offering in the country. The Renegade Commando will be competitively priced and will rival the motorcycles from one of the most popular brands in India, Royal Enfield.
UM Motorcycles has collaborated with India-based Lohia Auto who will be responsible for the manufacturing operations. UM has already planned to set up 5 dealerships in India as a part of its expansion strategy. Mr. Villegas also said that the Indian facility will be the export hub for neighbouring countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Also, 10-15% of total production in the country will be exported. The company first showcased Renegade Commando, Renegade Sport, Renegade Duty and Xtreet at the 2014 Auto Expo and received a good response.
