Since the American UM motorcycles were showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, enthusiasts of the country are waiting for their launch. However, the company was searching for a right partner for local manufacturing and selling its motorcycles here with reasonable price tags. And it found that right partner in Lohiya Auto and released a press note of their joint-venture in September 2014. Now, the UM is going to launch three of its motorcycles at the 2016 Auto Expo, scheduled from 5th to 9th February.
Motorcycles launched in the first phase will be from the UM Renegade series including the Commando and the Sport versions. These entry-level cruisers will be powered by a new 300cc motor, most probably a single-cylinder, air-cooled type. These models could be priced very competitive in the market and positioned against the segment leader- Royal Enfield.
Lohiya Auto will manufacture the UM Motorcycles at its facility in Uttarakhand, which has a production capacity of 1 lac units per year. The company is also making alliances with different vendors in India to produce different parts locally. It will further help them to cut the cost of motorcycles and getting a better response in the market. According to the response of these limited models in India, it could also higher displacement versions of the bikes along with some other products in the country.
