Royal Enfield has had to delay the launch of the new bike due to the COVID-19 pandemic
[Update: Royal Enfield has launched the Meteor 350 in India. Head here for the pricing and other details regarding the launch]
- The Meteor 350 is Royal Enfield’s Thunderbird replacement.
- It will be the first bike from the new J-platform series.
- Expect it to be priced around Rs 1.70 lakh.
The hype around the upcoming Royal Enfield Meteor 350 doesn’t seem to be fizzling out anytime soon. Why should it, after all the Meteor 350 is the first of many new products set to arrive on the bikemaker’s new J-platform series. We have seen the production-ready bike in the flesh a couple of times already. This time around, the Meteor 350 was spotted with accessories, which we believe will be launched alongside the bike very soon.
Much like the bike it replaces (the Thunderbird 350X), the Meteor 350 is set to be an urban cruiser. The Meteor will get a windscreen reminiscent of that found on the old T’bird. While the mirrors on the spotted bike seem to be stock, expect RE to offer some premium ones later on. You can clearly spot the large engine guard, which almost all Bulleteers get fitted right at the time of delivery. But look closely and you will spot a metal engine bash plate quite similar to the one that is offered for the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650.
The rider and pillion footpegs also seem to be a bit flatter in comparison to the regular cylindrical ones. Royal Enfield has made sure that its soft panniers/luggage systems, which it has designed in-house, can be affixed on to the Meteor as well. The necessary fitments for the same can be spotted on the bike.
We can expect Royal Enfield to offer different bar-end weights, brake fluid reservoir cover, master cylinder cover and other such small items too.
We know quite a bit about the Meteor 350 thanks to the numerous times it has been spotted testing or posing for its ad film. We also know that it will appear in a bright yellow colour and also in red. Plus, it gets the new 350cc engine which will be fuel-injected and maybe even counterbalanced to rid itself of excessive harsh vibrations. The double downtube frame is completely new while the subframe looks similar to that of the Thunderbird.
We have been waiting to hear more from Royal Enfield regarding the possible launch date of the Meteor 350. We had hoped that the bike would be launched by the end of the month or next month as the country-wide lockdown restrictions have been eased. Expect the bike to carry a price tag of around Rs 1.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which would put it on par with the Jawa Forty Two and significantly cheaper than the Benelli Imperiale 400.
