An electrifying ‘tu mera bhai’ style tale of two premium e-scooters
Imagine if you could charge any smart phones, including iPhones, with any charger. Wouldn’t that be something? The same compatibility issue also plagues the world of electric vehicles. Fast charging setups are few, and one open to all brands even fewer. Hence, the bold move of giving the Ather’s fast charging port to the Vida V1 as one of its three charging mediums – Fast charging, regular home charging, and removable batteries– is revolutionary.
Let’s not forget, Ather announced last year that its charging infrastructure will become open-source technology for all OEMs. Also, granted that Hero MotoCorp is a major investor in the e-scooter startup, the Vida V1 is still an all new proposition. And it is for this reason that this move is so important.
Fast charging:
The port is positioned on the V1’s front apron, and though Vida has its own charging grid, the socket is identical to that on the Ather 450. This allows Vida V1 owners to charge at Ather Grid and vice versa. Distributing the load in this manner helps both brands invest in fewer stations, and yet maximise coverage. The Vida V1 claims a quick charging time of 65 minutes for a 0 to 80 percent topup.
Home charging:
Positioned under the seat, this port is your conventional park-and-charge method. Using this method, a 0 to 80 top up will take five hours and fifteen minutes on the Vida V1 Plus, and five hours forty five minutes on the Vida V1 Pro.
Removable Batteries:
You get two removable battery packs on the Vida V1, each weighing around 12kg. So not the lightest, but convenient if charging in your parking lot isn’t an option. But most importantly, it makes the Vida 1 future-proof for when swapping batteries becomes commonplace.

Having three ways of charging the Vida 1 is a genuinely welcome proposition. The thought behind it is both user-centric and future-ready. Moreover, Vida has been preparing the ecosystem for EVs across major cities as we speak. It will have 60 charging stations with 100 plus chargers, across Bengaluru, New Delhi and Jaipur, more cities will be added closer to December, said the folks at Hero MotoCorp.
