Yamaha has launched the Aerox Alpha in Indonesia and the scooter gets many changes, making it even better and more desirable. The scooter is now available in four variants: Standard, Cyber City, Turbo and Turbo Ultimate. Let’s have a look at the changes it has received.
Design
The Yamaha Aerox Alpha gets a new headlight design with integrated turn signals and dual-LED projector headlamps. There are changes to the rear tail light as well which is now an LED unit along with LED indicators as well. These changes make the scooter more aggressive and has a sharper design quotient.
Engine and Underpinnings
The Yamaha Aerox Alpha is powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from the Yamaha R15 but on the Aerox Alpha, it makes 15.4PS at 8,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 8,000rpm. It is paired with an Electric CVT (YECVT) transmission which gives the Aerox two riding modes: T mode and S modes, and three acceleration modes: Low, Medium and High. The acceleration modes alter the feel of acceleration and can be controlled by a dedicated Y-shift switch on the handlebar. Other updates include disc brakes at both ends, rear shock absorbers with a sub tank and a performance damper which Yamaha claims will improve handling while cornering.
Features
The Aero Alpha now comes with a TFT display with three display modes: Standard, Dynamic and Sports which change the layout of the information and can be adjusted for brightness. The display also has an auto brightness setting which changes the brightness level according to the sunlight level. The TFT display supports turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-connect app, which also gives you ride telemetry. Other features include traction control, single-channel ABS, emergency stop signal which flashes both indicators in case of hard braking, a smart key which allows keyless ignition and an answer back feature. The scooter also gets a USB-A charging socket and a smart start/stop system to add more convenience.
India Launch, Price and Rivals
The scooter has been launched in Indonesia. While Yamaha has not announced that they will ever bring the Aero Alpha to India, it would surely be a great fit given the immense popularity of the Aerox in India. The Aerox which is on sale in India is priced from Rs 1,48,400 to Rs 1,51,700 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi), if the Aerox Alpha does come to India, it will command a premium over the current price and will go against the likes of Ather 450 Apex and the Aprilia SXR 160.
