The FZ250 will be an important bike from Yamaha as it will be the most powerful motorcycle from the company to be manufactured in India
Although Yamaha’s into the enthusiast segment started with much aplomb, efforts towards the cause seemed to lose momentum. Late last year, the interwebs served up a few camo covered test mules seemed to indicate the possibility of entry level naked sport. Now Yamaha have put out a teaser campaign announcing a new bike in January.
The new motorcycle is important for Yamaha as it will be their most most powerful offering in the sub-continent.The Launch date of the bike is still kept under covers but Yamaha has confirmed a new product launch on January 24. Since no other new Yamaha product has made an appearance on road as a test vehicle, it is quite sure that the teased FZ250 image confirms it to be the same motorcycle to be launched on January 24, 2017. Yamaha calls the FZ250 a new breed of motorcycle and it will be the most powerful motorcycle from the company manufactured locally.
Spy shots reveal that the bike will get full LED headlights with Daytime Running Lamps (DRL’s), muscular fuel tank extensions, stubby exhaust muffler and split seats. Riding position of the bike is comfortable and upright towards its streetfighter purpose. The bike will get beefier telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock unit at the rear. The bike gets disc brakes on both wheels, though there are no visual parameters stating the bike to be equipped with ABS. The company might offer the motorcycle with optional ABS in the future.
The motorcycle will be powered with the same 250cc engine offered on the Fazer which is currently sold in the Brazilian market. It is a 249cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor producing 20.7PS of maximum power and 20.4Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox. power output figures speculate the motorcycle to have a relaxed engine.
The FZ250 is expected to be priced around 1.5 to 1.7 lakh rupees and will take on the likes of KTM Duke 200, Benelli TNT 250, Bajaj Dominar 400 and the Mahindra Mojo.
