Yamaha has confirmed that it will launch the MT-03 in India around mid-2016. The motorcycle was recently unveiled at the 2015 EICMA and is the naked version of Yamaha YZF-R3. It will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo as well. MT-03 is expected to cost around Rs. 3 lac (ex-showroom), i.e., around Rs. 25,000 less than the price of R3, and will rival the likes of Benelli TNT300, Kawasaki Z250 and KTM 390 Duke. Just like the YZF-R3, MT-03 is expected to come through CKD route and will be assembled in the country.

MT-03 gets power from the same 321cc, parallel-twin liquid-cooled mill that serves the R3. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and churns out a maximum power of 42 PS with a peak torque of 29.6 Nm. Similar to R3, it is built on a diamond frame having telescopic shock absorbers up front and mono shock at the rear for carrying out suspension duties. It comes equipped with disc brakes at both wheels. Coming to the design, MT-03 adopts a street bike setup which includes a muscular fuel tank bolted to an exposed chassis. The company has also equipped it with a single piece wide handlebar that offers upright riding posture.
